Installing a new roof on your home come with its fair share of choices to be made. There are a wide range of colors and styles available for any available material on the market. Let’s explore some of the more popular roofing materials, asphalt shingles and metal roofs.
Asphalt shingles are by far the most popular roofing material on the market, and have been for over 100 years. Asphalt is relatively durable, lightweight, affordable, and easy to install, repair, and replace. It is an excellent option in most environments, but can be compromised by extreme temperatures and is susceptible to damage from wind-driven debris or hail.
Metal comes in a variety of colors, and is available as stone-coated shingles, corrugated sheet metal, or standing-seam metal roofs. These roofing systems are heavier and so they can only be installed on certain buildings, otherwise your building will need to be reinforced to adequately hold the extra weight. Metal roofing systems are more expensive, but they are remarkably durable and can last two, even three times as long as asphalt shingles.
