Winter is hard on your roof. Even if you did not experience severe snow, ice, or wind, all those things in milder forms can still wreak havoc on your roof, particularly if it has been a long while since anything has been patched. Thus, the end of winter, or the new year is a great time to have a roof inspection for any damage winter may have caused, and then have damage repaired immediately so that you’re ready for the rest of the year.
Winter Damage Potential
You never know what sort of damage winter can cause. If you had snow, all that weight and moisture may have cause roof leaks, cracks in sealing, and more. The same can be said for ice and ice dams. If you had icicles, it’s worth checking to see if you had ice dams and any resulting damage.
Winds can shake shingles loose, too. Those cold drafts do more damage than you might think. You never know when you might have loose shingles; they’re often not obvious, particularly when you’re standing on the ground. You may have started winter with loose shingles, too and not known it. After winter, you want to make sure they’re intact.
Of course, if your roof hasn’t been checked in a long time, there are any number of problems you could have that may have been aggravated by winter. If you didn’t have a roof inspection performed in the fall to make sure that your roof was ready for winter, wait no longer. Have one done by a professional roof inspector as the winter dies down, or before. Don’t wait any longer than you must to have any roof damage repaired, either.
