High winds and hail can cause some serious damage to the roof structure and shingles on your home. If you’ve had a storm come through recently, it’s a good idea to look over the condition of your roof in order to keep it well maintained. Here are a few things to do after a storm has hit:
There is no need to climb your roof yourself to do a quick check for debris or obvious damage. Take a quick walk around your home and look for large pieces of debris that might’ve been blown onto your roof during the storm. If there was high winds or large hail, check for torn, dented, or missing shingles. Asphalt shingles are covered with small granules to protect them from sun damage. In bad storms, these particles can wash off leaving the shingles exposed. Check the gutters and the ground around your home. If you find a large amount of these granules, the shingles will need to be replaced in order to prevent leaks in the roof.
We recommend having a professional roof inspector come out to do a thorough check of the shingles and roof structure. Not all hail damage is visible from the ground and someone who has worked in the roofing industry will know exactly what to look for if you think you might be dealing with storm damage.
